Why We Built This Site
West Virginia does not place every part of a criminal history in one public database. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Law Enforcement Office keeps records created by its deputies, while city police departments keep their own reports. Magistrate and Circuit clerks maintain charges, docket events, orders, and dispositions. The West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau controls the central fingerprint-supported record, and the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry follows a separate disclosure law. This resource brings those distinct search tools, request paths, office contacts, and access limits into a clear local framework.
What You Will Find Here
- Agency contacts: the Jefferson County sheriff, court clerks, and statewide offices that keep each part of the record
- Record guides: how Jefferson County criminal court cases, arrest records, and registry entries are found and read
- Official self-review routes: how fingerprint checks work through IdentoGO under West Virginia State Police authority
- Record relief information: where West Virginia expungement petitions are filed and which official statutes govern access
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site, not part of a West Virginia court, law-enforcement office, or state agency. Its role has firm limits:
- We cannot run an official background check or pull a criminal record for anyone
- We cannot issue certified court files, police reports, booking records, or state criminal-history records
- We cannot submit a West Virginia FOIA request or an expungement petition for a visitor
- We cannot apply the law to a specific charge, warrant, disposition, or eligibility question
- We cannot promise that a government office has not changed a fee, schedule, form, or contact detail
An official record must come from its custodian, such as the sheriff, the disposing court, WVDCR, or the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau.
Search Partners
Third-party providers power search boxes found on some pages. Each provider controls its own service, terms, prices, and results. A paid signup reached through one of those tools may generate a referral payment that supports this resource. We do not set the provider's charges or determine the information it returns, and those tools do not replace an official record from the originating office.
